A title Glamourdale was born for…

An unforgettable extended canter, two-time tempis and a passage which had the 11 thousand-strong crowd clapping in time… Glamourdale was present at the FEI Dressage World Championships and oh so correct.

The KWPN Dutch black stallion radiated power under the petite and elegant frame of Charlotte Fry, who has proved to be the perfect partner for this new Dressage World champion. A title he was born for – ‘Glammy’ has come of age on a global stage and boy did he deserve it.

In August at the Blue Hors FEI World Championships in Herning,  Glamourdale and Fry added to their Team silver by winning Individual gold in the Grand Prix Special gaining 82.5%. The following day they won another gold in the Grand Prix Freestyle Test to Music with a whopping 90.6%. A test which is so watchable, again and again.

In that second individual test, the pair looked relaxed and fluid as if they were there just to consolidate what everyone knew already. They were simply world class.

Afterwards, Lottie said: “It’s absolutely incredible, like unbelievable, I just had the best feeling in there I’ve ever had. I had so much fun and he has so much fun and we literally just loving it the whole way round. Glamourdale went in there and he knew what he had to do and he could feel the atmosphere. If there’s a lot of crowd, he’s going to show off even more – I can just sit there, it felt so easy and he was just bouncing through his music.

The music was entitled Best of British and was arranged by Joost Peters. The tone and intent suited the black stallion perfectly; his love of crowds sealed the deal.

Away from the arena Fry described Glammy as having a super sweet personality. She said: “He is very chatty, he likes to whinny to everyone and always says good morning. He’s the most polite gentleman. He loves his cuddles and kisses and just any attention generally. His main focus is to make sure everyone is looking at him, which isn’t difficult when he’s as beautiful as he is.

Glamourdale’ was born May 10, 2011. He was bred by Joop Rodenburg and owned by Gert Van Olst and his wife Anne, the former Danish Olympic Dressage rider. They live in the Netherlands and run an elite performance and breeding centre. Glamourdale’s sire is Lord Leatherdale and his dam, the classy Thuja – her sire being Negro. Glamourdale’s lines, like his trot is impeccable.

Fry began her partnership with Glammy when he was six. She can still recall how it felt when she first began working with him, “It was the most incredible feeling in the world, like flying.

Glamourdale won the World Young Horse Championship as a seven-year-old at Ermelo in the Netherlands.

The notes on the young champion said: “The trot, always in rhythm and with huge cadence, scores nearly a 10, only because the judges want to see a more noticeable difference in the medium and extended trot. A 9.8. The canter has lots of quality and ability to collect, a 10. We see that Glamourdale is very focused in his work, shows us nice changes and always has a nice contact, a 9.4. We look forward to his future, a 9.5 for his perspective.

In 2019, when Glammy was eight, the pair were unbeaten internationally as they rose up the ranks through Prix Saint George and Intermediate. As an active stallion, he’s always been lightly campaigned; he was back on stud duty shortly after his recent Championship success.

Fry said: “Glammy’s taking a bit of a well-deserved holiday and his breeding schedule is getting very busy. He will concentrate on that and just enjoy some hacking and light work for a few months.

His performances in Herning will remain long in the memory. Fry moved country from the UK to the Netherlands to dedicate herself to dressage and she’s been rewarded in the best possible way – partnering the oh so beautiful Glamourdale.

Although he is the most spectacular looking individual – he is still a gentle and affectionate horse, who loves a carrot or two and according to Fry – also a banana.

Kjento wins again in Ermelo!

With a big lead, the great Kjento (Negro x Jazz) and rider Charlotte Fry became world champion for seven-year-old dressage horses during the Longines FEI/WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses. In a sun-drenched final, the expressive KWPN stallion, bred by A.J. van Os, stood out above the rest of the podium.

The jury only had superlatives for the trot of the black KWPN stallion. “What an exciting and well-moving horse,” commentating jury Maria Swenessen from Australia began. ‘A pleasure to judge, but with a trot with so much balance, upward urge and collection, the question arises: ‘How high can you go?.’ Only the very highest was enough, the only 10 in the final was awarded. Kjento’s upward canter with a lot of power and active walk were also highly appreciated, which was reflected in his score. The fact that the jury has a lot of confidence in the seven-year-old stallion was apparent from the 9.8 for perspective that was awarded, which meant that the world championship could no longer escape him.

Charlotte Fry couldn’t help but shine after the final. ”It was so exciting after my test, there were still four combinations to start. I’ve only been walking around nervous and waiting, but now I’m enjoying the win!’ The World Champion is a joy to work with according to the rider; ”Kjento is super chill to handle, in the stable it is almost a gelding. But as soon as I pick up the reins, he’s there and super sharp. He is the perfect horse.” During the test, the combination really enjoyed themselves despite the pressure to maintain its favorite position after last year’s win. “We went for more power this test and he delivered everything I asked for. Of course there is pressure to show that he is still as great as he was, but I really don’t have to worry about that with him,” Charlotte concludes.

Kjento in the lead in Ermelo

The World Championships for young dressage horses are once again held in Ermelo this year. Kjento, the winner of the 6-year-olds in 2021, will be present to defend his title.

Under Charlotte Fry he showed a very good test in which he got a 9.8 for the canter and a 9.5 for the trot, submission and general impression. For the seven-year-olds, a mark is also given for the technical part, for which the duo received 76.428%. Their total score came to 84.415% which was enough for the victory in this first test.

Glamdale recently became reserve champion at the Westfalen Woche. Yesterday his rider Stefanie Ahlert rode the black stallion to victory with an 8.5.

Glamourdale back home and available

After a long but good journey Glamourdale is back home.

In preparation for the World Championships he stopped breeding 4 weeks ago. As of this moment he will be available again.

A dream come true

Herning 2022 will go down in the history books for Van Olst Horses with capital letters. After a thrilling finale in the freestyle to music, with goosebumps, nail biting and a lot of emotion, Charlotte Fry has become World Champion in the freestyle with Glamourdale!

The best 15 combinations from the Special started in the final of this World Championship. Lottie was 13th to start, followed by the Dutch Dinja van Liere and the Danish Catherine Laudrup-Dufour.

With a brand new Freestyle called “Best of Britain”, composed by Joost Peters, Lottie started her test. To the sounds of God save the Queen, she entered the ring at A. After a perfect halt, it continued to the sounds of Queen in an unparalleled passage. The public enjoyed the music and the combination in the ring and did not hide this during the test. The oh’s and ah’s regularly filled the stadium and people spontaneously started singing along to the well-known British melodies. Peak after climax followed one another, the climax rose towards the end of the test. The canter part was exceptional, the audience ‘flabbergasted’ from the extended canter and two tempi’s.

In the last A-C line, the whole stadium, filled with more than 10,000 people, started clapping to Another one bytes the dust by Queen. The closer the duo got to the C, the more enthusiastic the audience became. The last part of the test, again to the sounds of God save the Queen was the pirouette in piaffe. The crowd went on there feet, cheered and clapped and absolutely loved it!

What a test! That the jury enjoyed it was clear from the score: 96.914 for the artistic part and 84.392 for the technical part, the score came to a fantastic 90.654%.

And then the waiting began…. It was exciting until the end, but when Catherine Laudrup – Dufour’s score finally appeared on the scoreboard, Charlotte Fry and Glamourdale were truly World Champion in the Freestyle!
