English Championships

Olympic rider Charlotte Dujardin wins the British Small Tour Championship three days after her return from the European Championship in Hagen. She did this with the eight-year-old Imhotep  (by Everdale).

The gelding is owned by Coral Ingham and Carl Hester. Charlotte took over the reins from the gelding in the summer of 2020. In May this year they competed at Small Tour level for the first time. In July, the combination was crowned Advanced Medium Winter Champions. After that they only competed once, until now they competed in the British Championships.

Inexperienced

“I’m very happy with him,” Charlotte tells Horse & Hound. “He hasn’t seen much yet, but he’s doing so well in the ring. He hasn’t even explored the track here in advance.” Before Charlotte got Imhotep under saddle, Sadie Smith rode him. While she was away to Tokyo and the European Championships, this rider also rode the gelding. “That kept him fit in the meantime. After the European Championships, we only had three days to prepare him. It really was a whirlwind.”

Most resilient horse ever

The rider is looking forward to the future of the gelding. It does not matter whether she continues to ride him, or whether Carl Hester takes over the reins himself. “He is handling it all well and is fantastic to drive. ‘Pete’ is the most resilient horse I have ever ridden. It really does feel like he has suspension in his legs. The Grand Prix work is already done, so I’m really looking forward to bringing him out in the Big Tour next year.”

Day 2 Aachen:

Friday is all about the Grand Prix 5* that Lottie will ride with Dark Legend and the 4* Grand Prix Special with Glamourdale.

As one of the last starters in the Grand Prix, Lottie and Dark Legend rode there test. This competition is the first competition where “Darkie” will compete after a long break. As a reserve horse he went to the quarantine for the Olympic Games in Aachen and on this ground he will make his comeback.
They entered the stadium full of power and immediately made an impression when they entered. A clear round followed in which the duo showed that this combination can be taken into account for the future. A very nice 76.717% was the result and a great second place!

Tonight at 19.25 she will start with Glamourdale in the Grand Prix Special 4*.

Day 1 Aachen

On Thursday, the Aachen competition started for Lottie with the Grand Prix 4* with Glamourdale.

The former world champion made his international debut this year in the Grand Prix. During the “Weltfest des Pferdes” as the competition in Aachen is also called, they made there third start in the international competition. At the age of 10, Glamourdale is the youngest participant in this test.

A test that started with highlights in, among other things, the extended trot, followed by beautiful half-passes. Passage with a lot of tact and well off the ground with again nice transitions to the piaffe, which was shown very nicely. The canter, for which he received a 1o at the World Championship, was shown with big strides, the tempi changes were amazing, many “Oe” and “Aah” sounded from the surrounding stands. The extended canter shown by the book. The half passen in canter were also a highlight in this test. Unfortunately, Glamourdale came back a little too much in the pirouettes in canter, but these were the only two small mistakes in an otherwise amazing test. With 73.043% they placed fifth in this strong field of competitors.

On Friday evening, the duo will once again perform in this impressive stadium and then in the Grand Prix Special.

Time to look back at the WCYH Verden

Negro in the lead at HorseTelex Results Ranking

Since the arrival of the HorseTelex Results Ranking (2015), only one KWPN stallion has topped this list. Johnson took the top position in the world ranking for 2020. Now Gertjan van Olsts Negro (Ferro x Variant) is in the lead. And he also owes this position in large part to Van Olst personally: many of the children who collected points in the ranking for their father have a link with Van Olst.

Kastel’s Nintendo (ds. Monaco) ridden by Charlotte Jorst was owned by Van Olst as a young horse and was trained by Anne van Olst, and the same goes for Charlotte Heerings Bufranco (Negro x Zevenster) and his brother Alfranco ridden by Sarah Higgins. Severo Jurado Lopez’ Olympic horse Fendi T (Negro x Lester) is still owned by Van Olst and Beatrice Ferrer-Salats Tokio horse Elegance (Negro x Monaco) was bred by Van Olst.

A total of 19 Negros competed in international dressage last year (September 2020 – September 2021). In addition, 21 grandchildren collected points (half awarded) for their grandfather, including Van Olst’s Grand Prix stallions Chippendale (Lord Leatherdale x Negro), Everdale (Lord Leatherdale x Negro), who won team bronze with Charlotte Fry in Tokyo and Glamourdale ( Lord Leatherdale x Negro), who made an impressive debut this year in the international Grand Prix.
