Everdale-son wins Dressage Talent Berlicum

Everdale-son Kenndale was the winner of the 4-year-olds during the competition for young horses last weekend in Berlicum. Kenndale (Everdale x Special D) was shown by rider Nora van Houtem during the Dressage Talent Berlicum and was awarded 89.5 points in the first section by the jury Johan Rockx and Jacques Verkerk.

His score sheet included several nines for walk, general impression and self-carriage/elasticity. The canter received a 9.5. Our Grand Prix stallion Everdale was also very well represented in the class for 5-year-olds. In the top 15, out of 39 starts, there were 6 Everdale offspring. Fourth place was for Julietta Sione (Everdale x Mataro) with Lars op ’t Hoog and sixth place was for Jive (Everdale x Jazz) with Renee Zomers.

Glamourdale-son third in the Champions Inspection

Glamourdale-son Lance V.O.D (ds. Davino) came a splendid third in the Champions Inspection during the Stallion Inspection in Den Bosch. Lance V.O.D had already shown himself well on Friday night. Power, light-footedness and a splendid uphill-built stallion model characterise this Glamourdale-son. Andreas Helgstrand noticed this too. He is the new owner. Andreas will later decide whether Lance will complete his performance test in the Netherlands or in Denmark.

Glamourdale shines

Friday evening 1st February Glamourdale, together with Charlotte Fry, showed why they are the 2018 FEI World Champion. After a tremendous show during the K+K Cup in Munster this was only the second time that Glamourdale, after his victory last Summer, had appeared in the ring. His impressive trot and canter resulted in an enthusiastic reaction from the public and a standing ovation.

Kjento Impresses

The beginning of the dressage evening during the Stallion Inspection in Den Bosch is always marked by a presentation of the stallions who have been approved during the past year. The absolute performance champion of the Autumn Inspection is Kjento. This modern son of Negro x Jazz x Juventus, bred by the van Os family, achieved 90 points in his test. The highest score ever given to a three-year-old stallion! As new superstar he showed the large audience his tremendous potential. Always uphill, always with ‘takt’ and regularity, always with elasticity, always in balance and always willing to work. A star in a nutshell, that made an overwhelming impression.

VHO-Trophy SC Den Bosch

Franka Loos showed George Clooney (De Niro x Wolkentanz) and Giovanni (Chippendale x Scandic) during the VHO-Trophy in the Brabanthallen.

The sturdy Giovanni scored points for his presence and the pleasure with which he worked for his rider. “A complete horse with all the buttons and who also enjoys working” assessed Mariette Sanders – van Gansewinkel. Result: 8.7 and a second place.

George Clooney was a little overawed by the full Brabanthallen (6500 visitors on the Friday) and suffered a little from tension. But this De-Niro-son certainly has talent. Just as many De Niro-offspring, they just get better and better as they develop towards Big Tour-level. George Clooney will become more and more convincing at stud. Several very special offspring of his will appear in the 2019 Van Olst Sales.

Four stallions nominated

Friday 1st February the stallion inspection for the dressage stallions started in Den Bosch. The group of Glamourdale’s young sons was watched with great interest.

Two of the 4 of his offspring were given an invitation for the performance test and one of those for the Champions Inspection. The Glamourdale x Davino x Jazz, out of the same dam-line as our new superstar Kjento, showed himself exceptionally well and had many fans in the tribunes. This big, long-lined stallion moved with tremendous strength, technique and power to a nomination. The other nomination was for Lennon, this Glamourdale-son out of a dam by Jazz x Havidoff x Doruto is exceptionally nicely bred and looks very much like his, now famous, sire. Strength, technique and scope characterise his way of going.

Our young Sir Donnerhall x Hemmingway showed himself to be a true mover with much suppleness and a way of going that is always upwards. Full of confidence, we are going to gradually break these horses to saddle and make plans for their subsequent training. Crosby was also invited to Ermelo. His test will suffice with a 5-day stable test. This 8-year-old son of Chippendale x Flemmingh is competing at Small Tour-level and showed a good collection of offspring to the stallion inspection committee at the beginning of this year. Based on this, and his own performance, a five-day stable test in Ermelo will follow.

Breeders, congratulations!!

Ekitof (s. Zucchero) new asset for Carl Hester

One of Carl Hester’s New Year’s resolutions was to make his Grand Prix debut with the KWPN Ekitof (Zucchero x Negro x Joost). He did that last weekend in Hartpury and won with over 71%. Nothing special you may say, but it was only the seventh competition in his life for the Zucchero-son, who is known for being quirky. The last time the black roan, whose stable name is Blackie, was in the ring was just over a year ago. Ekitof, bred by Gertjan van Olst and D. Faro from ‘s-Gravenmoer, moved as a young horse to Carl Hester’s yard. Ridden by Amy Woodhead, the Zucchero-son won the British Championship for five-year-old dressage horses. He was then ridden by Charlotte Dujardin. Two years later Dujardin was national champion with the gelding at Advanced Medium-level.

‘Not a horse for the fainthearted’

Between the championship and the Grand Prix debut the quirky Blackie was only competed once, in the Prix St Georges. “He really went straight from the Small Tour to the Grand Prix and was fairly wound up.”said Carl Hester after the horse’s first competition for a year. Hester explained to Horse&Hound: “He is not a horse for the fainthearted – you have to really have a sense of humour to ride him. When he was at the Championships with Charlotte it took three of us to take him into the ring. But then he immediately won!”

 “I’m never doing that again’

Hester continued: “We always thought that once Blackie was fully trained he would become more obedient. It just took a long time to teach him everything. At first he didn’t seem to have any talent, but now that he has learnt everything he is actually very talented. He was just exceptionally lazy – after the championship Charlotte said ‘I’m never doing that again’. But I’m now really pleased.” Carl Hester became attached to the horse and the plans for the tuna-sandwich-eating Blackie are now a couple more national competitions in the Big Tour and then international.

Painted Black continues to attract attention

Last weekend, 26th and 27th January, the preferent Painted Black (Gribaldi x Ferro) showed once again that he is a true “Grand-Prix producer”. At the international competition in Temecula (USA) the 2nd place went to Zenith (Painted Black x Krack C x Animo) with Nick Wagman. Their score was 67.91%. During Jumping Amsterdam the second place in the U25 Freestyle was for Charming Lady (Painted Black x Krack C x Black Amulet). This daughter of Painted scored 75.48% with Janine Nieuwenhuis.

George Clooney-daughter scores in EPTM-test

Twenty-two EPTM-mares took their exams on 25th January. Seven dressage-mares, fourteen jumping-mares and the very first Gelderland mare who took the test for Gelderland horses. All the mares passed. Judge Henk Dirksen: “It was a positive EPTM-test, the majority of the horses were good to ride right from the start. The mares have made good progress over the past few weeks, resulting in us awarding six mares 80 points or more.”

Of the seven dressage-mares, five mares were presented for studbook inspection and three mares were promoted to keur or elite. One mare was already in possession of the studbook predicate and after passing the EPTM-test this mare immediately became ster. The mare that was placed at the top during the Central Inspection was George Clooney-daughter Kurona (out of Vurona elite IBOP-dres sport-dres pref prest PROK by Negro, breeder Chr. De Feyter Seydlitz from Axel) owned by M.P. Vanderstappen-Keyzer from Rockanje. “A mare with a good walk that is clear-cut and active. Her elasticity and light-footedness especially attracted attention.” The mare was awarded 70 points for conformation and 80 points for movement. She also had the highest score of the dressage-mares in the EPTM-test, with 79 points.
